Hinges On My Door Are Beginning To Rust

Hinges on my door are beginning to rust. Remove the door hinge. Dab a clean dry cloth into the salt lemon paste and rub it on the rusted areas of the hinges. However if you already have hinges installed and don t want to change them the best way to prevent them from rusting is by keeping air and moisture away from the surface. Remove as much rust as possible but expect rust to remain near the edges.

Use a screwdriver to remove the hinge plates from the door. Scrub the door hinge with steel wool. Ferrous metals iron and steel rust quickly when exposed to air and moisture so one way to prevent rusting hinges is to use an alloy metal such as stainless steel that is designed to prevent rusting. The mildly acidic nature of the lemon juice will react with the rust and help remove it.

Luckily the rust on my hinges was not too deep and i was able to get it all off between the soaking and the scrubbing.
